I saw an interesting demo from Langtree SkillsCenter that made me glad that I already finished all my schooling.
The company demonstrated a system that lets teachers take attendance on mobile devices, along with a database of the students’ photos and other information (could be great for substitutes!). When a student is marked as absent, alerts can be sent within 15 minutes via cell phone text message to the student’s parents alerting them to their absence.
Other reports can also be generated (for example, to check to see if the student was in other classes earlier, and check attendance on field trips, or sporting events). It's an interesting solution in automating attendance, plus it gives parents some peace of mind that they know where their children are during the day.
