Network World Fusion, 09/24/03

Kanguru Solutions today released a new device that lets users portion off and secure sections of any hard drive to make confidential data “invisible” and inaccessible when the device is unplugged.

kanguru_wizard.jpgThe Kanguru Wizard is a USB device that lets users create up to eight “hidden drives.” The company says each hidden drive supports up to 2G-bytes of data. A user can basically secure up to 16G-bytes of data that is only accessible when the device is plugged into the PC. The device costs $49.95, and works with Windows 98 (and SE), ME, 2000, and XP. Kanguru said it will work with file systems such as FAT, FAT 16, FAT 32 and NTFS.

Every device comes with a unique hardware password, and includes an emergency password if the device is lost. Software can be installed onto the device, and the icons associated with the programs disappear when the device is removed, Kanguru said. For more details, go to the Kanguru Web site.
