An application on the device lets users print a proof sheet from a memory card, and then lets users choose the size of the images they want to print. The printer supports Compact Flash (Type I and II), Sony Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Sony MagicGate SD, Smart Media, Secure Digital, MultiMediaCard, IBM Microdrive, xD-Picture Card and Mini Secure Digital (with an adapter). The scanner portion of the RX500 lets users can a flat photograph and save it directly to a memory card (again, without using a PC). The scanner includes a built-in, removable transparency adapter (for slides and negatives), and scans at 2,400 by 4,800 dpi resolution.
The device also includes six different ink cartridges (the snap-in, snap-out variety) that includes an extra-large black ink cartridge and five color cartridges (cyan, magenta, yellow, light cyan and light magenta).
