Toshiba to launch new tablet

Toshiba recently announced the next generation of its Tablet PC devices. The Portege M200/205 series will include Intel Centrino mobile technology and a "dual axis accelerometer" that lets users manually tilt the notebook up or down for scrolling functionality. The device is available through Toshiba's Web site and costs $2,499.

Toshiba-M200-sm.jpgThe new series includes an optional Tablet Multi Dock that lets owners write on the screen while sitting at a desk. The dock includes a rotation feature that can be set to landscape or portrait mode to increase comfort level for users. The Multi Dock also lets users view multiple applications on either a second monitor or the Tablet PC screen.

Other device features include a 1.5GHz Pentium M processor, 512M bytes of RAM (expandable to 2G bytes), up to 80G bytes in hard drive space, optional 802.11a/b/g connectivity (802.11b is standard), an NVIDIA GeForce FX Go 5200 graphics card with 32M bytes of DDR video memory, a Secure Digital expansion slot, one Type II PC Card slot and two USB 2.0 ports. The tablet measures 11.6- by 9.8- by 1.5-inches and weighs 4.4 pounds, Toshiba says. With a standard battery, the tablet gets up to 4.5 hours of battery life, the company added.
