Polyphonic ring tones are so 2002. If you want to be hip these days, you need to upload MP3s onto your cell phone.
Xingtone this week announced Version 2.0 of its cell phone software, which lets users turn any MP3 or WAV file into a 30-second ring tone. Xingtone said the service works on Sprint PCS, Cingular, AT&T Wireless and T-Mobile phones (ack! Not Verizon!). The 2.0 software (free for a limited time) lets users upload their media from PCs over the air as free ringtones to their mobile handsets.
The software takes any audio file from a PC and converts it into a "real audio ringtone," the company said. For more details, go to the Xingtone Web site.
