Network World Fusion, 01/28/04

The new LG VX4500 mobile phone will be available to Verizon Wireless customers on Jan. 29 (tomorrow), the companies said today. The new phone, which costs $89.99 (after $30 rebate and two-year agreement), includes a two-way speaker phone and advanced voice recognition features.

LG-VX4500-open.jpgLG says the two-way speaker phone lets users speak hands-free by just pushing one button. In addition, the voice recognition command system lets users access contacts, voice mail, calendar and time information quickly without having to use the phone's keypad.

Other features include an external LCD screen with caller ID (the screen can flash different colors depending on the type of call, whether it's voice, or text message, voice mail or missed call); a 499-name phone book; calendar and scheduler; built-in alarm clock; CMX MIDI sound; 36 standard ring tones and speed dialing. The phone works with Verizon's Get It Now (BREW) service, so users can download applications (games, ring tones, etc.) to the phone.

Go to the Verizon Wireless Web site for more details.

I just got the vx4500 yesterday. After spending some time with the user manual, I am very happy with this phone. The voice dial and driving mode are very convenient. So far it seems to work well. Nice not to have to spend extra money on a speaker for hands free use. The display is great. People I have called report the clarity is good. All in all I think this is a terrific phone. The voice scheduler is a neat feature. If you do not need a camera, this has a lot of features.

Does anyone have any idea if while the phone is in driving mode & a call comes in, if you can shut the speaker off & answer the call using the handset?

Any insight is appreciated.

Verizon does have single year plans available with this phone. Check out their plans. I got the regional digital plan with the txt msg and internet for just over $40 a month, a great deal. I think this phone will do a great job.
