Logitech announced today that it has built its "most powerful computer mouse ever," the MX510 Performance Optical Mouse. Designed for computer gamers and other "power users," Logitech says the MX510 can capture 5.8 megapixels of surface detail per second, deliver a 12-bit data bath and support acceleration up to 15g (don't ask me).
The MX510 has the same shape and design as other MX series of mice, but now it has a "reflective, holographic finish," Logitech said in a statement. The company claims that the finish on each mouse is completely unique, making it like a snowflake -- no two are exactly alike. The mouse will be available in red for U.S. customers, and blue for European customers. The company also announced version 9.8 of its MouseWare software, which lets users customize mouse performance.
The MX510 includes eight programmable buttons, including an Internet forward and back buttons aimed at being within easy reach of the thumb. A Quick Switch Program Selector button is at the top of the mouse, which lets a user jump between open applications. The MX510 is now available for $49.95 in the U.S. and Europe. Users in Japan and other Asian countries can buy the mouse in April, Logitech said. Go to the Logitech Web site for more details.
