Fujitsu Computer Systems this week launched a new Tablet PC that includes a reflective front-light screen aimed to help mobile workers who work outside see the display better.
The 10.4-inch indoor/outdoor display is offered as an alternative to the 12-inch indoor-only TFT display on the slate-style Stylistic ST5000 Tablet PC. Fujitsu says that under direct sunlight, the display will get brighter instead of becoming washed out. In low light conditions, the front light can then be adjusted to enhance viewing, the company added.
Other features of the ST5000 include an Ultra Low Voltage Intel Pentium Processor at 1GHz, 256M bytes of SDRAM (up to 2G bytes available), a 60G-byte or 40G-byte shock mounted hard drive, integrated modem and Gigabit Ethernet ports (10/100/1000), optional 802.11b/g or 802.11a+b/g (for the SD5010D model) wireless Lan connectivity, a Type I or Type II PC card slot, a dedicated Smart Card slot, shared Memory Stick / Secure Digital media slot, and a six-cell lithium ion battery (or optional 9-cell lithium battery). The tablet runs on Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, and also has two USB 2.0 ports, an infrared port, IEEE 1394 port and external monitor port. It weighs 3.4 pounds, and offers battery life up to five hours of life (up to eight hours with the expanded battery).
The ST5000 starts at $2,049, and is now available. For models with the new indoor/outdoor display, pricing starts at $2,249. For more information, go to the Fujitsu Computer Systems Web site.
