SharpZaurus-SL-6000.jpgSharp this week launched a new version of its Zaurus Linux-based handheld PDA. The new SL-6000 features a full VGA screen, has rugged features to protect itself from drops, and supports IBM's WebSphere, and Java-based applications.

The new PDA also has built-in 802.11b wireless LAN connectivity, protected flash memory, a built-in sliding QWERTY-style keyboard, and support for Compact Flash and Secure Digital (SD) expansion cards. An optional expansion jacket supports an extra battery and has an additional Compact Flash slot, Sharp says. For high-speed wide-area wireless, Sharp will sell an optional CDMA 1X Compact Flash card offered by Sprint.

Other features include 64M bytes of protected flash memory, 64M bytes of SDRAM, an Intel Xscale (400 MHz) processor, and a rechargeable, replaceable 1500 mAh Lithium polymer battery. The new "corporate solutions ready" unit is available now for about $700, through VARs and other resellers. For more details, go to the Zaurus Web site.
