U.S. Robotics (hey, remember them?) this week launched some 802.11g-based USB wireless adapters, for desktops/notebooks and for gaming consoles.

USR-5420.jpgThe U.S. Robotics' Wireless USB Adapter offers 802.11g wireless LAN connectivity (compatible with 802.11b systems) for desktops and notebooks with USB 2.0 (or 1.1) ports. Security options on the adapter include Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) and 802.1x authentication support. The adapter includes a built-in 2dBi single dipole antenna for "superior range and coverage than other products in its class," a U.S. Robotics statement said. The system also includes Profile Manager software that lets users automatically connect to commonly used wireless networks.

The USB adapter (model 5420) will be available later this month for $79, U.S. Robotics said. A model for Europe (USR805420) will be available for £59.99, including value added tax (VAT).

The Wireless Gaming Adapter and Ethernet Bridge (model 5430) includes 802.11g connectivity for any device with an Ethernet port. The company says its Automatic Configuration feature lets users plug in the device to an Ethernet-enabled game console, and it automatically finds and connects to the nearest access point. U.S. Robotics says it can do this no matter the device (such as digital video recorder, Internet appliance, etc.). The 5430 will be available later this month for $109, and in Europe for £69.99 including VAT.

For more details on these or other wireless products from U.S. Robotics, check out their Web site.
