PalmOne today unveiled details of its two newest Zire handhelds, the Zire 72 and Zire 31.

Palm-Zire72-sm.jpgThe $299 Zire 72 (click for picture) is an update of its Zire 71 model, and includes features such as a 1.2 megapixel digital camera, video capture with audio, MP3 player, integrated Bluetooth, a voice recorder, 32M bytes of memory and a 312MHz Intel ARM-based processor. The new digital camera on the Zire 72 is integrated into the device (on the Zire 71 users had to slide open the device to get to the camera feature), and can capture images up to 1,280 by 960 pixels. Other camera features include a 2x digital zoom and special effects features such as creating photos in sepia or black and white.

Other features of the Zire 72 include a 320 by 320 pixel color screen, the ability to create and edit Word and Excel-compatible files, Outlook synchronization (via Windows), and a Secure Digital Input/Output (SDIO) card slot.

The entry-level Zire 31 (click for picture) is Palm's first under-$150 handheld ($149) to feature a color screen, and includes features like 16M bytes of memory (eight times more than the original Zire), an MP3 player and a SDIO card slot for memory expansion and other applications.
