SmartDisk today said it was shipping its FireFly USB 2.0 portable hard drive. The FireFly is about the size of a deck of cards and provides 20G bytes of data storage (20 hours or about 5,000 MP3 files, or up to 15,000 digital photos). The FireFly costs $189.99 and is available through retailers, distributors and at the SmartDisk Web site.

SmartDisk-FireFly-20GB.jpgThe FireFly measures 2.5- by 4- by 0.5-inches and weighs 3.3 oz., SmartDisk says, and connects via USB 2.0 cable to a desktop or notebook computer (the device also supports USB 1.1, but at a lower transfer rate). The FireFly draws power from the computer it is connected to, meaning no additional power adapter is required. For most computers, no drivers are required, users can just plug the device in and it adds itself as an extra storage drive.
