Altec Lansing has announced a portable speaker system that is aimed at providing iPod mini users with a way to play their songs through speakers. The iMmini is based on Altec Lansing's inMotion speaker system, albeit 41 percent smaller.
The iMmini (click for pop-up image) measures 7- by 4.4- by 1-inch, which Altec Lansing says is small enough to fit into a briefcase or backpack. The system runs on four AA batteries that provide up to 24 hours of power for the speakers. It also includes MaxxBass technology, which provides deep bass without the use of a subwoofer, the company says.
Attaching the iPod mini to the iMmini involves inserting the player into the speaker system's front-mounted docking bay and beginning playback through the speakers. The device also has an alarm clock feature, and it can also re-charge the iPod mini while it's sitting in the speaker dock (as long as the iMmini is being powered by the AC power charger).
For users with alternate devices (including regular iPods, a CD player or Mp3 player), an auxiliary input cable is provided. The system will be available in late summer for $129.95 at Apple stores and the online Apple store. For more details, go to the Altec Lansing Web site.
