Network World Fusion, 11/18/04

Logitech this week launched a new device that lets regular users connect their Xbox or Playstation 2 game consoles into a broadband connection wirelessly.

Logitech-PlayLink.jpgThe Logitech Play Link wireless extension devices uses the 900 MHz frequency, which means users don't have to worry about SSID names and other concerns found with 802.11b or 802.11g wireless Ethernet adapters aimed at gamers. The $100 system comes with two devices -- plug one into the Ethernet port of the game console, and then the other one plugs into a free Ethernet port (if you have one) on your broadband router. The range of the device is up to 100 feet, Logitech said. This seems so simple that I'm surprised that nobody else has thought of this before.

The system will be available later this month in the U.S. and Canada, Logitech says.
