SimpleTech this week announced its miniSD and RS-MMC Flash memory cards, aimed to address the mobile phone and handheld device storage market.
The new cards are available in capacities ranging from 128M-bytes to 512M-bytes. The miniSD and RS-MMC media have the same features as a standard-sized memory card, but just measure half the size. The cards can also convert into the standard SD and MMC size with an adapter. SimpleTech said the adapter will come with the RS-MMC and miniSD cards it sells. The cards are available now, with prices ranging from $25.99 (128M-bytes) up to $72.99 (for the 512M-byte version) for the miniSD cards; and $24.99 (128M-bytes) up to $71.99 (512M-bytes) for the RS-MMC cards.
The company also announced the FlashLink All-in-One Reader, a USB 2.0 mulitple-card reader/writer. The device connects to a PC to provide transfer of data, images and music files from most memory cards to the computer. The FlashLink provides transfer rates up to 480M-bytes/sec, and doesn't need an external AC power adapter to operate. Card support includes miniSD, RS-MMC, regular SD, Compact Flash (Type I and II), MultiMedia Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro (4-bit data transfer), Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick Pro Duo, Memory Stick MagicGate, SmartMedia and IBM's MicroDrive. The reader is expected to be available by the end of this month for $19.99.
