Proof there's still plenty of money to be made in online ads

Google's deal to buy a 5% stake in AOL to the tune of $1 billion - beating out Yahoo, Microsoft and others - renews the Internet giants' technology and advertising partnership.

Seasonal online shopping surge takes toll on corporations. while e-tailers have experienced record sales, companies are paying the price in decreased security and worker productivity as many employees spent work hours searching for the perfect gift.

Online shoppers once burned won’t come back

A recent survey of U.S. Internet users shows most victims of identity theft won't return to a site where their information was compromised. Half of the respondents also said they would switch financial institutions if they learned their personal data had been accessed without authorization.

Cyber attacks shift to network devices, apps

After years of writing viruses and worms for operating systems and software running on Internet servers, hackers have switched their focus to network devices and applications, specifically back-up software and even the security software designed to protect computers, according to the 2005 SANS Top 20 list of the most critical Internet security vulnerabilities that was released last week.

RFID labels track attendees at storage conference

Word recently got out that at Computerworld’s Storage Networking World in Orlando, Fla., last month, RFID labels were included on attendees’ badges without their explicit consent.

Microsoft security news

What do you want first: the good news or the bad news? On the good news front, Microsoft will release on Monday Nov. 7 a security-focused upgrade to its free Web Services Enhancements package for Windows developers. The upgraded package is designed to make it easier for developers to create secure Web services.

On the not-so-good news front, Microsoft admitted that two patches for its Internet Explorer browser that were released earlier this year may cause some Web sites not to load properly. Microsoft has published instructions on how to resolve the issue on its Microsoft Security Center Response Blog.

Start-up adds video to Google

Santa Cruz Networks has updated its Festoon video plug-in software to allow users of Google's IM service to add video to their voice calls. The plug-in allows Google Talk users to hold video/voice calls for groups as large as 200 people.
