Starwood understands opt-in
By Gearhead, NetworkWorld.com, 04/06/05
Reader Greg Martin sent the following to Backspin: "I received the [message below] from Starwood Hotels (owners of Sheraton and others) I was dumbfounded. After sending me email for 2-3 years as a member of their rewards program, they are opting me out of their mailings. It actually says if I don't reply, they will stop sending me mail! This is a great policy that should be applauded."
Outstanding! This is the way organizations should handle their mailing lists. Real opt-in will buy you more customer loyalty than any of the BS "we say that you subscribed so we'll just keep sending you messages until you jump through a few hoops" programs that some of the idiots out there still seem to think work.
Starwood Hotels are hereby heartily applauded.
