Google wants your videos (and world domination)
By Gearhead, NetworkWorld.com, 04/14/05
"Your work deserves to be seen. You've made a great video. Now who will watch it? Whether you produce hundreds of titles a year or just a few, you can give your videos the recognition and visibility they deserve by promoting them on Google - for free. Signing up for the Google Video Upload Program will connect your work with users who are most likely to want to view them."
Google is pushing the envelope once again in their quest for world domination through indexing. Now they want to get any and all videos you care to submit ...
Google's criteria for accepting videos are:
* You must own all necessary rights to the content, including copyrights to both the video and the audio.
* You must be able to upload the video electronically.
* The video must not contain pornographic or obscene material.
The preferred submission format is MPEG4 format with MP3 audio or MPEG2 with MP3 but they also support QuickTime, Windows Media, and RealVideo. The preferred specification is NTSC (4:3) size and framerate, deinterlaced, MPEG2 or MPEG4 (MPEG4 preferred), video bitrate of at least 260Kbps (750kbps preferred), MP3 VBR audio at a minimum of 70Kbps (128 Kbps preferred). There's no maximum length and you can submit as many videos as you please.
Google also suggests providing as much supporting details as possible in the form of content indexes and transcripts. Interestingly, Google will support both free and for fee viewing and you retain all rights to your content, Google will assume no copyright to your material.
At present this program is in the development phase -- Google is accepting videos but nothing is available for access yet.
There's a FAQ for the Google Video Upload Program
