Toothless Bluetooth
By Gearhead, NetworkWorld.com, 04/30/05
We love Bluetooth ... mostly. For a technology with so much commercial "weight" behind it you'd think it would be painless and streamlined to use. No such luck.
This was proved when Tony came over yesterday and we tried to connect a Plantronics M3500 Bluetooth headset to his Sony VAIO laptop so that he could have the ultimate Skype setup. Turns out that it can't be done ...
After messing around with the VAIO's Bluetooth system for half an hour we concluded that something was very wrong. We called Plantronics and talked to a very helpful support tech. He confirmed what we'd started to suspect: Sony had omitted Bluetooth headset support from their implementation. He told us that HP had done the same thing but then added headset support back in a year later (we say "back in" as support was apparently included in the original Bluetooth stack licensed by HP).
So, why did Sony remove Bluetooth headset support from their stack? No idea yet but our people are talking to their people ... if you have any idea how to fix this problem, please let us know.

Hey - I just bought almost same model, M2500, for use with my Sony Z1 laptop. Like you say, I cannot make it work! I really would like a patch.....
