Yeah, yeah, we know its been around forever but we've just got interested in Skype's free Voice over IP service. It is remarkable! And free.

Skype's sound quality is usually great and the user interface is well-designed. It supports not only telephony but also handles file transfers and instant messaging.

You can use the service for free for Skype to Skype calls and the company offers, for a charge, SkypeOut (calls to regular phones), SkypeIn (routing regular calls to a Skype account), and Skype Voicemail service.

There's even an API and example code. Way cool. And did we mention it is free?
