Enabling more efficient theft with TiVo
By Gearhead, NetworkWorld.com, 07/06/05
We knew that TiVo was supposed to be capable of doing a 30 second skip (great for zipping through the commercials) but we assumed ours didn't have the feature (not unreasonable when you consider just how many features DirecTV disabled in their version of TiVo -- see next week's Gearhead for a discussion of other deficiencies).
It turns out that you just have to enable the feature by entering the following sequence on your TiVo remote after you start replaying a recording: Press Select, then Play, then Select again, then 3, then 0, then Select one more time. If you haven't disabled TiVo sound effects you will hear the bong sound three times. Now when you press the "skip to beginning" and "skip to end" buttons (the buttons with the arrows pointing to lines) you will get a 30 second skip backward or forward. You can switch the feature off by repeating the sequence or restarting your TiVo.
Now you too can join the ranks of the scofflaws stealing television content.
