First Intel dual core chip a hack
By Gearhead, NetworkWorld.com, 08/19/05
"Intel's first dual-core chip was a hastily concocted design that was rushed out the door in hopes of beating rival Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) to the punch, an Intel engineer told attendees at the Hot Chips conference today." -- from "First Dual-Core Pentium 4 a Rush Job, Intel Says", PCWorld 08/17/05. It gets better: According to the Intel engineer who spilled the beans: "It's not an optimal solution, but it's a viable solution. It works, and it works reasonably well."
Great. Well done. A mediocre solution that "works reasonably well." That's something to be proud of.
