Blogs grow 31% since January but RSS not understood
By Gearhead, NetworkWorld.com, 08/19/05
According to a Neilsen//Netratings report titled "ONE IN 10 WEBLOG READERS PERSONALIZES CONTENT WITH RSS FEEDS, ACCORDING TO NIELSEN//NETRATINGS" that since January 2005 blog sites have grown 31 Percent and were read by nearly 20 Percent of Active Internet Users in July 2005.
But Really Simple Syndication (RSS) which you might have thought central to blog content distribution is at best poorly understood (23%) or not understood (65.7%) leaving a measly minority (11.3%) who understand and use RSS. We suspect that the issue with RSS is that it is a protocol not an application and newsreaders are as misunderstood as the protocol itself. Is there a business opportunity here?
