Network General, maker of the Sniffer brand of network packet analysis tools, today announced it has acquired Fidelia, maker of NetVigil software for monitoring infrastructure systems and applications.
Network General tools 'sniff' network traffic and analyze application packets, while NetVigil software discovers network elements to be managed such as Web and application servers, databases and devices.
Ken Boyd, CIO and executive vice president of product management at Network General, says integrating NetVigil into Network General's product suite will enable Network General to alert and report on how well business services perform, from the packet level to the executive management dashboard.
Network General expects to release its first phase of integrated products in April and plans for a deeper integration to be complete by the end of the fourth quarter. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed, and Fidelia operations -- along with some key management members -- will be rolled into Network General.
