What are you looking at?

When it comes to conferencing in general, what is more important: to be seen (i.e. video) or see what I am seeing (i.e. application/desktop sharing)? Glance Networks CEO Rich Baker claims that seeing what I am seeing is more important than video at this point. (Note: Glance Makes a screen sharing application, so its position is biased.) However, one member of the audiece brought up an interesting test: When in a conference that contains slides and video, which are you looking at more? His assumption is the slide.
