File-swapper amnesty program chided
By Jason Meserve, NetworkWorld.com, 09/08/03
Police departments hold gun buyback programs, states have tax amnesty periods for delinquents and now the RIAA is hoping a similar program will reform download-crazy file swappers. Reports say the record industry trade group will launch the amnesty program this week, which would "excuse users who swapped copyright music online if they erased the music from their computers, destroyed all hard copies, and promised not to engage in future online piracy." But the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) thinks this is bunk and urges users not submit to the RIAA's desires. Will you vow to a life of downloading reform?
