Rear seat entertainment

By Jason Meserve, NetworkWorld.com, 04/15/04

No, not that kind of entertainment.... audio and video. XM Radio is investing in Digital Fountain's file delivery technology with eye toward future applications that could have on-demand video, audio books and more delivered to in-car entertainment systems. As an XM customer cruises the road, content will be download and stored locally for future viewing. Unlike with current satellite technology, the downloaded content can be paused, fast-forwarded, rewinded and played as many times as the viewer wants. But don't go to Best Buy looking for a system today, it probably won't be available until at least 2005.
