RealNetworks touts discount download numbers

RealNetworks claims it has sold some 1 million songs in the first week of its 49-cent download promotion on Rhapsody. The top title download: Maroon 5's "She Will be Loved." The company also signed deals with the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Minnesota to offer "deeply discounted access" to Rhapsody. Real hopes that by offering a low-cost legal alternative, the ever resourceful students will stop illegaling downloading music and go legit.
