By Jason Meserve, NetworkWorld.com, 01/24/05
Videoconferencing vendor Avistar announced today at Lotusphere it is now a member of IBM PartnerWorld Program and will be intergrating its video collaboration technology with Big Blue's Workplaces Client 2.5. The key point of integration, which is all software objects, is around IBM's concept of "Live Names", which provides presence information to any contact, be it in a document, IM window or e-mail. Joint customers of Avistar and IBM will be able to right click on a Live Name and have an option to start a videoconference with the user - if they're online and are video-enabled. Right now, Avistar is only demonstrating the integration. It should be available by the end of Q2'05.
