Logitech camera install issues
By Jason Meserve, NetworkWorld.com, 03/09/05
Yesterday was not a fun day and not because of the snow storm that was raging outside my house. I was trying to get a Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Pro camera running on my Windows 2000 machine for a project we're working at Network World. The software that came on CD with the camera, version 8.3, installed fine but none of my video applications would recognize the camera. Instead, they kept trying to use some video driver that comes with Camtasia Studio. I checked the TechSmith support site for Camtasia and found one potential fix, which didn't work. Next I uninstalled the Logitech Software, update to the latest version of DirectX, and started the install all over again... nothing. I did another uninstall/reinstall with no luck. Did I mention each install requires TWO system reboots... talk about major frustration. I was ready to hurl my laptop out the window. Now, the Logitech camera software comes with a "check for updates" option, which I used to ensure I had the latest version. It said I did. Well, after a few hours of fussing around I checked the Logitech download area and lo and behold, a new version of the software was there. It seems to have corrected my problem. I still have an issue if I try to plug the camera into my USB port after my system is running... Windows goes through its Found New Hardware dance and then requires a reboot. Fun! Maybe Windows XP is a little more forgiving, but this is all I got for now.
