The folks at Prentice Hall were nice enough to send me a copy of their newest book, "The Streaming Media Handbook" by Eyal Menin. With just a quick look it seems to be a good read for someone looking to get into streaming media either for business or hobby.
Menin covers everything from the history of Webcasting to network topologies to building your own streaming server to using proper lighting, all in 310 pages. If you skip the history section, it's a great resource for IT professionals charged with setting up a corporate streaming system. It covers LANs, WANs, Wireless LANs and even the latest cellular networks.
Also, Menin does not seem to show biased to any one media format, instead laying out the pros and cons of each. One drawback is the book only describes hardware/software installations for Windows-based machines.
The book lists at $34.99 with a 10% discount if purchased directly from Prentice Hall. Amazon offers it for $24.49.
Back to The Multimedia ExchangeI've been trying to get info on the history of Webcasting/Streaming and I keep running into a brick wall. I only need the information for a school project and don't have the time or finances to buy a book. Is there a place online where I might find this information and a good software program to get this running if I had to?
Thanks!
