Star Trek fans short on travel funds must have rejoiced over the news they could join in the annual Star Trek convention held this past August in Las Vegas via a virtual 3-D environment. Virtual-conventions teamed with Creation Entertainment to offer the pay-per-view service, which gave "Online attendees [the] opportunity to 'become' an avatar -– a Klingon, Borg, Romulan, Vulcan or any of a dozen other Star Trek species -- in 3D." Virtual-conferences worked with consultants from RampRate (PDF - warning: press release) to build the online tradeshow that had an estimated 1.4 million viewers during its 3-day run. What's on tap for next year? Being able to beam to and from the show?
