To take advantage of its recently announced unified conferencing device, Polycom has released update to WebCommander, its management console product. WebCommander is used for "scheduling and managing a voice or video conference from a web browser, including adjusting the volume of participants, or specifying an exclusive speaker for lectures and muting all other participants, and changing video layouts on-the-fly." The full version of WebCommander starts at $25,000.
This is just another step in Polycom's quest to be all things conferencing. Last month's upgrade to the MGC multi-point control unit software brought audio and video conferencing support into one box. Now, the company is beefing up the tools used to manage all the pieces. I think they want to be come synonymous with "one-stop shopping".
