Microsoft NetMeeting and or the WebEx Webconferencing service not enough for your document sharing needs? You may want to take a look at VirtualDesign Networks' Virtual-WorkSpaces service. I spoke with the company by phone last week and today got an in-person demo of the technology on the Comdex show floor. It's an impressive service that uses a browser to combine whiteboard, video, audio, calendar and tasks functionality into a single window.

Intially targeted at the engineers using CAD and other 3D design tools, the Virtual-WorkSpaces can share up to 260 file formats. Audio and video are shared among users in a multicast fashion to help conserve badwidth on constrained networks. Users can also choose not view or share their video feed in order to cut down on bandwidth usage. Drawings can be shared in 3D, but not annotated by other users.

The service is hosted out of VirtualDesign Networks' datacenter in Portland. Files are usually upload to the service prior to the conference to minimize file sharing delays. Pricing is $250 per month per seat with a $250 initial setup fee.
