Advent Networks and BroadQ have created an offering for delivering MPEG-4 and other multimedia to the home via Sony's PlayStation 2 gaming device. The offering uses Advent's carrier network equipment to serve media from a cable headend over a 5M bit/sec connection to the home. BroadQ's QCast Tuner software, installed on the PlayStation, allows the user to view DVD-quality video on their TV. Advent and BroadQ's platform can deliver MPEG-4, MPEG2, DivX and MP3. The companies demonstrated the technology at the recent Broadband Plus - The New Western Show in Anaheim last week.
