Polycom reaches out to competition

Polycom is attempting to extend the reach of its People+Content technology, which allows on-screen computer data to be shared at its native resolution simultaneously with traditional video in a videoconference call. Polycom announced this week that it will begin offering a free license of the technology so that non-Polycom network components and end points can deliver and use People+Content. The goal being to make People+Content interoperable across all video endpoints. The first to take advantage of this is Polycom's closest competitor Tandberg, which will offer the technology in its MCU offering along side of its similar DuoVision functionality. Both People+Content and DuoVision can be used in the same conference call.
