Network World Fusion 04/09/03

Serious Magic has made RealNetworks RealVideo 9 the default output format for its Visual Communicator product line. Previously, only Windows Media and AVI were the only output formats available to users of the software. Visual Communicator lets users create television studio-like sets using a green screen and chroma keying to create a professional look and feel to corporate training and educational videos. We used the software for a couple of in-house projects and it works pretty well if you need to get a visual message out quickly. A basic version of Visual Communicator is available for $99. The $149 Visual Communicator Plus gives you the green screen and a microphone and a $349 Pro version provides for higher resolution output for DVD burning.

Also this week, Serious Magic announced Ultra Key, a standalone product for chroma keying virtual sets in the field. The product is still in development and will cost $795 when it does ship "soon", according to Serious Magic's Web site.
