Amazon.com has inked a deal to use Microsoft's Windows Media 9 Series to offer song samples to customers. LoudEye will host and deliver the content. Amazon seems to have made the decision to go with Windows Media 9 because of its Fast Streaming technology, which eliminates the buffer time when a video starts (when the latest Windows Media client is downloading from a Windows 2003 server.) Amazon.com still supports the Real format as well, but many see this as a win for Microsoft in its battle with Real for King of the Streaming Media Hill.
