Network World Fusion 08/08/03

VBrick is working with the Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration, the University of Rhode Island's Institute for Archaeological Oceanography and famed ocean explorer Robert Ballard to bring live video feeds from his latest deep sea expedition in the Black Sea. Ballard is looking for a downed ship known as "Wreck D."

Dating from the Byzantine-era, Wreck D is buried in mud at the bottom of the Black Sea and is believed to be the best-preserved ship from the ancient world ever found.

A video feed from the ship and the robotic deep sea explorer Hercules will be transmitted via Satellite to URI, where it will be encoded into MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 using VBrick's VBXCast appliance. The MPEG-2 stream will be multicast across Internet 2 and the MPEG-4 stream available for viewing on the everyday Internet. For those looking at the MPEG-4 stream, its best to have the latest version of QuickTime installed.
