After chasing porn operators and music sites, Acacia Research is turning its patent lawyers on universities, according to this article in the The Daily, a student publication at the University of Washington. What profit is Acacia targeting in its patent cases?
In the case of educational institutions, the company’s claim to a portion of streaming-related revenue would apply to all student fees used to fund online streaming media and all tuition paid to attend classes that use streaming media for instruction.
