RealNetworks is heading to court again. This time it's suing a division of Major League Baseball for what it claim is a breach of contract. In January, Real said it would no longer sell subscriptions to baseball games, which had done for the past three seasons. So why the suit? Right now MLB is streaming Spring Training games in the Windows Media format. Now we're getting somewhere. Real says it wants both formats offered to consumers and says that its contract with baseball says they have to offer Real. I am seeing this as more sour grapes than anything. First they weren't interested in selling games anymore (which accounted for 2% of Real's revenue in 2003), but now that their chief competition is involved, we're off to court.
