Network World Fusion 06/22/04

Over in our Data Center Research Center (lot of centers there) blade server technology is a hot topic. A couple of video-related vendors are getting in on the trend this week at Supercomm. Kasenna and Radvision are both working with Intel to show off their respective technologies running on a Intel-based AdvancedTCA server blade. Radvision ported its Media Server to the platform while Kasenna is demonstrating its Media Base product. What's cool about AdvancedTCA and the various vendors supporting it is service providers can have one hardware chassis with multiple blades, each supporting a different set of services. The idea is to eliminate all the proprietary hardware, making maintenance and operations cheaper and more efficient.
