Google isn't developing a PC, but they are changing the face of business on the Internet.

All right, I admit this isn’t a direct operating system hit, yet, but if you are paying attention to the changing Web, and most everyone with a set of eyes is, then it is imperative to understand the pressure Google is putting on the whole operation. That understanding includes business-to-business relationships as well as how a company can use Google (or get used by Google depending on your perspective and bent on privacy). O'Reilly Media has just released “Google Advertising Tools” by Harold Davis, an author, programmer, technology consultant and creator of the Googleplex Web site. Davis provides insight on how to manipulate Google’s tools for you benefit. Davis says that Google is "essentially a giant automated advertising brokerage … The same technology that makes effective searching possible also makes contextual ad placement work.”
Davis says he realized that the “technology that really matters to people is saving and making money.” Google seems to be at the forefront there. Besides giving the lowdown on Google’s AdSense and AdWords tools, the book also shows how to use the AdWords API to integrate AdWords into an application's database and inventory system. Brace for your corporate marketing manager to seek you out on this point. While all this might not have a bearing on tuning the performance or securing your OS, fascinating dynamics are happening out on the Web that will determine how it eventually works and how companies are taking advantage.
