Microsoft on Wednesday made available to customers with Software Assurance maintenance contracts software designed to put new life in old PCs.

Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs helps users set up old PCs as terminal emulators and put security and manageability on the level of Windows XP. The software also is designed to grease the skids for a migration to Windows Vista when it ships early next year.
Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs is designed to work with the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection client or third-party clients such as the Citrix ICA client. The software lets users execute locally a number of workloads security software, management software, terminal emulation software, document viewers, and the .NET Framework.
Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs is based on Windows XP Embedded Service Pack 2 (SP2),
