Dell got into the Layer 3 switch arena recently with its PowerConnect 6024 series of Gigabit Ethernet routing switches. This now gives Dell a story on the LAN edge and core in smaller networks. The company is also positioning the box as an aggregator of wiring closet switches in large enterprises with chassis in the core. Check out the PowerConnect 6024's specs versus some of the gear Dell is competing against.

Force10 Networks does DDoS prevention
Force10 recently introduced a suite of technologies on its E-series of 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches that the company says could be used to halt network attacks. The "Dynamic Security Suite" involves a mixture of the vendor's Hot-Lock access control list technology and DoS Guard, which filters packets before sending to the route engine. This, combined with a hardware architecture that separates routing, switching and control plant traffic onto separate processors.
Force10 will have a "Webinar" on this topic next week. Click here for more.
And for you blog-o-philes, here's a Weblog some IT guy named Scott, chronicling his trials with router and switch configurations, migraines and frozen pipes in the office.
