Error 404--Not Found |
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:10.4.5 404 Not FoundThe server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent. If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (Gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address. |
Avaya and Extreme this spring are planning to address issues involving the authentication of IP phones on a LAN, as well as providing increased DHCP security for Avaya phones, via Extreme switches. The co-developed technology will make Extreme switches the primary enforcement point for IP phone authentication.
Around the second quarter of 2006, Avaya and Extreme will release new IP phone and switch software upgrades that will allow Avaya phones to be discovered by Extreme LAN switches just by plugging the endpoints into the network, according to Richard De Soto, director of converged networking solutions for Extreme. The discovery process will use Link Layer Discovery Protocol, an emerging standard for automated network device mapping and discover. An 802.1x supplicant on the Avaya phones will allow the devices to authenticate to an Extreme LAN switch. This will involve using a third-party RADIUS server to check the phone’s MAC address versus a list of pre-approved addresses.
Can't the competitors already do this with their solutions? Interesting, but incomplete.
