In what may be the biggest data loss ever, the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs admitted that the records of 26 million veterans and their dependents had been stolen from a staffer's home.
The staffer had taken the laptop containing the names, social security numbers and birthdates home to work on a project. The laptop was subsequently stolen from the staffer's home in a neighborhood that has recently be plagued by break-ins.
The Veteran's Affairs says it is unlikely that the theives knew about the contents on the laptop.
