Who knew PC remote control services was such a rough business?

King of the Hill Citrix, which bought ExpertCity for its GoToMyPC remote control service last year, must be none too pleased that WebEx Communications entered the market this month with its MyWebExPC service.

How do I know this? Set to research the new WebEx offering, I type into a browser: www.webexpc.com.

Does it take me to WebEx? No, it takes me to a signup page for GoToMyPC.

Turns out Citrix bought a bunch of variants on the domain MyWebExPC, which admittedly, is a mouthful and easy to screw up.

They include: webexpc.com, mypcwebex.com, mypcwebx.com, my-webex-pc.com, mywebexpcfree.com, mywebxpcfree.com, mywebexpro.com, mywebxpro.com, mywebexpcpro.com and mywebxpcpro.com.

So now WebEx has sued Citrix over this "cybersquatting," in the U.S. district court of Northern California.

On the one hand, Citrix looks like the bad guy here. But on the other, WebEx left itself wide open with this tough-to-recall name, and for not buying up all the domain variants itself. Let's see what the judge has to say.
