Spring travel

In April, I'm attending two exciting events: The Digital City Expo and the 2005 World Congress on the Future of Work.
Digital City Expo--the first one--aims to explore the impact broadband has on local communities. Yankee Group's Berge Ayvazian gives the keynote address; sessions on business development, community case studies, how-to workshops and applications and technology.
Of course, what interests me most--and the Telework Coalition, which I'm involved with—is bringing good jobs to folks who have the hardest time getting them--the disabled, military spouses, stay at home moms, older workers--as well as increasing job opportunities for folks in rural communities.
Telcoa's president Chuck Wilsker will be speaking, and I'm moderating a panel.
If you missed it, check out a recent article I wrote on how the IRS has hired disabled workers to handle its 1-800-taxforms line.
I'm also leading a discussion on home offices (with Neal Zimmerman, architect and author) for the World Congress.
This unique event is put on Jim Ware and Charlie Grantham--futurists, academics, consultants, good friends. Last year's event was mind blowing and I did follow up Q&A with Jim and Charlie back in June.
Mind blowing how? Let's just say we sat around brainstorming on what the world would be like if we got rid of all the middle managers.
This year's event promises to be even better. It's being held in Philly rather than San Francisco, and the GSA--the General Services Administration--will be there. Talk about a culture clash! I can't wait.
