Skies brighten and more innovation shines at DEMO Fall 05
Dear Vorticians,
Along with 500+ friends, colleagues and entrepreneurs, I'm enjoying the DEMO Fall 05 conference in Huntington Beach, Calif. Yesterday, I shared some thoughts about a couple of newly announced products that caught my eye and today I'm offering a few others. Here's what I saw that seemed to be most useful or promising:
* Destinator Technologies and its Destinator product. This product basically turns your cell phone into a GPS, giving you spoken driving directions to locations nearby. It also lets you send those directions to anyone else and it guides them to their meeting with you. If you move, the system alerts your pals so they can find you again. I loved this tool, particularly because it also can highlight local establishments - say, a Sushi joint - that you may want to visit. Find out more here.
* Jingle Networks. Sick of paying $1.25, $1.75 or even more when you call directory assistance on your cell phone? Jingle Networks has developed a free 411 system that is supported by local retailers. If you call to get the number of your local Pizza Hut, you may have to listen to a ten-second promotion from Domino's, but that's a small price to pay and, hey, you may want to take Domino's up on its offer. Jingle Networks is here and the number is 1-800-FREE-411.
* EasyReach. The EasyReach Remote Access system makes sure that no information is ever out of your reach. From your cell phone or BlackBerry, you can easily search for and access any office-bound information. In the airport and desperately needing that proposal you sent out last week? Search for it using a keyword and send it off to the client using simple commands on your mobile device. Hey, maybe you won't have to lug that laptop around. Look into EasyReach here.
* SimplyHired.com. I'm sure you are happy and well rewarded at your job, but on the off chance that you are not, you will find a powerful ally in simplyhired.com. The site pulls job listings - it currently claims 3.5 million postings - from job boards, company Web sites and other sources. When you search for a job, you can rank the quality and relevance of the results, much you like rate movies you've gotten from NetFlix, so the system can deliver even better results on the next take. The system is also tied into the LinkedIn social network so you can find out whether you have a connection to someone at the hiring company. Hey, I know you're a smart cookie (because you read me!) and there might be a better gig out there for you. Take a look at simplyhired.com.
That's it for now. More to come.
